Chicago- Following rave reviews for New York City conference on July 21st, The New Music Seminar comes to Chicago for the first time ever on Tuesday, October 6th at the legendary Park West. The New Music Seminar was established in 1980 and grew into one of the world's largest music business conferences.
Now, after 15 years, it is back as a crucial one day event for artists, managers and music labels of for every kind of music. Aspiring and emerging musicians, singers, bands, Rappers and members of the indie music community will be able to benefit by acquiring beneficial skills and making connections through networking opportunities. The new platform structure is contemporary and visionary with Movements (panels), Conductors (conductors) and Players (panelists) as components.
From the co-founder and Director of the original New Music Seminar, comes a symphony of new thinking for the next generation of the music industry, targeted at disenfranchised artists disheartened by the state of the industry and desperate for change.
"I have been asked many times over the last 15 years to bring back the New Music Seminar," says NMS co-founder Tom Silverman, "but it wasn't until the end of 2008 that I could finally see the new business begin to emerge. The trends are clear now and the future can finally be foretold.
The music business has changed beyond recognition. The old record business is over. For record companies it's a bleak picture. But it puts thousands of artists in the strongest position they have ever been to create their own success."
On Tuesday, October 6th in Chicago, the reincarnated New Music Seminar will announce a new dawn of the music business. Offering practical, straightforward, cutting edge solutions for artists trying to make it in these challenging times, NMS promises to give artists the knowledge and tools to step into tomorrow's music business today.
The conference will kick off with Keynote address by, Michael Spiegelman, Head of Yahoo! Music.

Michael Spiegelman is the head of Yahoo! Music, where he runs one of the most visited Music websites in the world and a leading source of music videos and Internet radio. While at Yahoo! Music, Michael has been responsible for leading the Re-launch of the music.yahoo.com site, adding concert information, music blogs and video playlisting. He served as a leading member of the team that designed and launched the Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscription service. He loves techno, house, breakbeats and is constantly on the lookout for great new sounds. Spiegelman will share his vision for Yahoo! New Music Seminar
On a hot 1980 summer day, 220 people met at a New York City rehearsal studio to discuss and debate the problems in the music business. It heralded the birth of the New Music Seminar, bringing new ideas, new talent and new connections to the industry, along with the introduction of Hip-Hop, new wave, house, and many other new forms of music. During its 15-year run, the first NMS became the world's biggest and most influential music business gathering attracting over 8000 people from 3 countries. The seminar has since spawned almost every important music event worldwide, including SXSW, Winter Music Conference, In The City and Canadian Music Week.
