Seeking Next Artist for Character-Based USB Flash Drive Platform

Boston, MA / San Francisco, CA – August 25, 2009 – Mimoco, maker of the MIMOBOT® collection of pop-art infused USB flash drives, has launched the next contest in their community-designed series of MIMOBOT storage devices. This time they have teamed up with Infectious.com, purveyors of adhesive art for iPhones, iPods, laptops, walls, and cars created by a mix of professional artists and a thriving designer community. Infectious is facilitating and hosting the six-week long Infectious x MIMOBOT Design Challenge, while Mimoco will produce the winning design as a future MIMOBOT flash drive. The grand prize winner also receives $1,000 in cash and a MIMOBOT / Infectious prize pack.

The two companies recently collaborated to release a pair of Infectious iPhone skins featuring original MIMOBOT characters that dropped at this summer's San Diego Comic Con alongside skins by mutual artist collaborators, FriendsWithYou, who also act as guest judges in the IxM Design Challenge. The contest officially begins today with the submission period closing on October 6th. Each design submitted in the challenge will be voted on by the community at Infectious, and then judged by Mimoco, Infectious, and FriendsWithYou who will determine the winning designs.

"The next MIMOBOT design contest was way overdue," says Mimoco CEO, Evan Blaustein. "Considering our last contest, yielding the amazing VDC Series, was held in 2007, we're stoked to re-up our ongoing collaboration with MIMOBOT fans and the design community worldwide. We couldn't be happier joining forces with Infectious and to tap into their 'community-designed goodness' expertise."

Whereas Mimoco's 2007 design contest leveraged hand painted blank do-it-yourself Vimobot vinyl toys shaped like MIMOBOT flash drives, the Infectious x MIMOBOT Design Challenge provides entrants with a downloadable MIMOBOT template from which designers can create limitless digital character concepts.

Infectious CEO, Tim Roberts commented, "The MIMOBOT design challenge is the first time we've given the Infectious community an opportunity to apply their art to a 3D sculptural form. We're excited to see what people come up with. Because Mimoco and Infectious share a similar vision on merging art with technology – it has been a very natural collaboration. "

The winning design will join the MIMOBOT USB flash drive roster including original characters and licenses from Star Wars™, Hello Kitty®, tokidoki®, Domo™, and Halo®, to pop-artists like Gary Baseman, Jon Burgerman, amongst other graffiti and contemporary artists. MIMOBOT flash drives are available in 2GB to 16GB capacities, are Mac/Windows compatible, and include preloaded bonus content like wallpapers, avatars, screensavers, and mimoByte™ sound software that emits character-specific sounds when engaged.
