August 25 Declared 'LeToya Luckett Day'
HOUSTON – While she has not been a member of Grammy Award-winning group Destiny's Child for more than five years, singer LeToya Luckett has enjoyed plenty of business and musical success on her own. The Houston native will now be honored by her hometown with a day that recognizes her achievements.
City of Houston councilman Ronald Green will present Luckett with a proclamation in front of Houston City Hall at 2 p.m. Tuesday that declares Aug. 25, 2009, as LeToya Luckett Day.
After severing ties with Destiny's Child in 2000, Luckett has since released a self-titled solo album in 2006 and opened two fashion stores in Houston named Lady L Boutique. One of the stores is located near the Houston Galleria while another one is located near the Uptown Park shopping center.
The proclamation coincides with the release of Luckett's second solo album, "Lady Love." Luckett is also celebrating the October release of the motion picture "Preacher's Kid," in which she stars, and "Five Killers," in which she will appear with Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl
